Caprice Hotel – What’s Behind The Big Black Gates?

I always love checking out hotels and giving them my own personal marks on cleanliness, staff attitude, food and general ambience. I don’t have that much of a following to affect people’s decisions on where they stay but my main reason for being a self-declared hotel critic is really just because I am so darn nosy. One hotel that I would love to check out is the Caprice Hotel in Akbuk. My interest has been fuelled by rumors that fly around the resort by Turkish people and the expat groups.

About the Caprice Hotel in Akbuk, Turkey

Now, if you have a look at the hotel booking sites that are in abundance all over the internet, you will not find the Caprice hotel being sold by any of them. Strange wouldn’t you think? After all this is a five star hotel that is a prominent fixture on the Akbuk coastline. They spend masses on advertising within Turkish newspaper and TV channels.

In the summer time, you see miles of posh cars parked outside and on the odd occasion a coach load of tourists will draw up,  get off the bus, disappear behind the black gates and will not be seen again for two weeks. The hotel must be doing well for clientèle even though they are not advertising to the main stream European tourist.

What Is The Reason For The Lack Of European Tourists?

Could the reason that they don’t advertise to European tourists be that we are all known as beer swigging, sun burnt individuals who live our lives in hope of finding the perfect bacon sarnie?  Could the reason be that the dress code is a lot stricter than other hotels in the region and if rumors are to be believed there are separate swimming pools for men and women? How would that work out if you are a family on holiday?

You see, I have been told by many that the Caprice hotel specifically caters for Muslim tourists. The problem is  that I like to check into a hotel where I open the mini bar and it is full of beer. I like nothing better than exploring in the evening time and returning to the hotel for a nightcap at the bar. I have never been one for swimming but I would like to at least sit at the same pool side as my husband.

Everything that I am telling you here are rumors that I have heard. My last request to the security of the Caprice hotel to have a walk around was met with the look of raised eyebrows and a kind of “never in my lifetime” sarcastic grin.  So if you have stayed at the Caprice hotel, I would love to know your thoughts about it. Failing that, I guess I will just have to check in and go tee total for the night.

  1. This is really interesting… I wonder if any of the rumors are true? I might be a little hesitant on making a reservation if I didn’t heard anyone’s opinion in it first.

  2. Oh go on Natalie…check in for a night…I’m dying to know what its really like!

  3. Please look an other Hotel for yourself. I don’t advice anyone.

  4. Hello Natalie,

I have been there, can’t remember if I stayed or not. But I did stay at another “that kind” of hotel in Alanya. Yes, what you have heard is true. It’s for “religious” muslims. (?t’s called alternative holiday, google “alternatif tatil”).
They have separate pools as well as mixed ones. But they have a “dress code”, no bikini etc.

The opposite of nude beach one could say. :)

    • Hi Levent, Thanks for your comment. I did not know about Alternatif tatil, so will take a look now. New concept of holiday for me, not sure I would be able to adhere to the dress code though!
